How To Create A Google+ Page In 4 Simple Steps

Google just announced that they have released ‘pages’ for Google+ for profits and non-profits. A new social media real estate land grab/gold rush has begun. There is gold in them there social media hills! It was so simple to create a page on Google+ I thought I would give you a quick step by step guide on how I did it in around 5 minutes.

Step 1 – Create a page

You’ll see at the bottom right hand corner a neat little button and graphic called “Create a Google+ page” Click on that.

Step 2 – Pick a category

You’ll get a chance to pick a category in this step. I think they haven’t quite figured this out yet. I tried to find a blog page as a type of page but I could only find that in arts, entertainment and sports which doesn’t really fit what I need so I’ve created my page under product and brand, not because I think it is the perfect category, but because it is closest to where I think I am positioned.

Step 3 – Customise your page’s public profile

This is a base level way of personalising your profile. I have uploaded a 200 x 200 pixel graphic and added my text from my Facebook page. Boom! Simple.

Step 4 – Spread the word out about your new Google+ page

You can quickly and easily spread the word out on your personal Google+ page straight away. They have made it so simple. They have thought this through really well.

  1. I’ve just created one for my church, Salford Elim Church: https://plus.google.com/u/0/115169638713173348025 (I hope Google+ get their act together on ‘vanity’ usernames soon!)

I have to say, I found the whole process a lot easier than Facebook pages, although there isn’t the ability customise the pages quite as much as on Facebook, only the 5 ‘scrapbook’ images at the top of the page.

I think being able to add location information to posts gives G+ a large advantage over Facebook, as this really opens up the ability to reach out to the local community. Also, I’m excited to look into ways we can utilise page hangouts – one possibility that springs to mind is to hold housegroups for people who are unable to leave their houses.

    1. some great points there Phil! I like your idea with the hangouts.

I agree that the vanity usernames will be useful – especially if google start to rank the results.

    1. Agreed! It was soooo easy!

I think they will eventually go for vanity links – hence the rush to get as many people in your new page circle as you can.

I’ll check your page out Jason!
